First Weekend update
I'm working on a longer update, but there's a lot going on that needs to be shared with the Nation.
- Ricciardi claims that he has exhausted all avenues to try to pick up a starting pitcher..although it is left open that they may negotiate with Armas later on
- I guess when the GM is hoping for a .500 season I should completely ignore my gut and just look at the stats...
- And then the most scary thing I've read in a long time, in this article about the Yankees options after trading Randy Johnson:
"Of course, it's possible the Yankees' sudden accumulation of young..is leading to a mega-swap with the Twins, who've undoubtedly calculated (and fainted at) the cost of keeping Johan Santana after he becomes a free agent in two years. Cashman's army of youngsters might be the escape the Twins would need, given that Barry Zito is now earning $18 million per year."
I can't even begin to imagine the Yankees giving the ball to Santana every fifth day. Brian Cashman has done an excellent job this off-season of getting rid of excess overpaid players and picking up a good crop of youngsters for the team along with two good bullpen arms. It's easy to win with George's wallet, but Cashman also had a pulse on the market and made swift moves. There may be an update later today I've been working on...if not it shall wait for tomorrow.
